'THE CARRIAGE HOUSE' ESTATE ONSITE AUCTION
Monday, 30 March - Monday, 13 April 2026
1905 NZ Settlers Wagon,
Estimate $8,000 - $12,000
Realised: $4,800 plus premium
Lot Details
The design of this Wagon is unique to New Zealand and was popular with early settlers and dairies. The Box Body was cheap and strong; it could be removed for the transport of timber when the length could be increased. The body and springs could be lifted clear without unscrewing anything except the brake rod. Note the light transverse springs were designed to carry a dozen cans of milk. Features: With a full load the bottom of the body can rest lightly on the top bolsters. When lightly loaded the horses can trot and the ride is smooth. Note that the pole is free to swing up and does not hurt the Horses necks going over rough ground. Normally pulled by two horses.
