Lot Details
unrestored original gig intended to be pulled by a light horse. Light vehicles did not come into use until town roads were first sealed about 1860. Coachbuilders tried to attract business by the style and elegance of their town carriage. This Gig is called a Butterfly Gig because of the unusual shape of the mudguards. Note the large but light wheels. Comes complete with rare side lamps. Wheels have some borer damage. Long steps so though with large wheel not a difficult gig to enter. Seat in good condition and can be moved back and forward on a winder handle. Double steps available to enter cart.
