Lot Details

with 7⅛" round flared brass barrel, engraved ‘W.HENSHAW. STRAND.LONDON.1788 ’ within a teardrop border, stamped with London proofs, full-stocked in walnut, cut with raised anthemion moulding around the tang, with brass furniture comprising vacant vase and anthemion framed escutcheon, butt cap decorated with mask and slender engraved tangs, trigger guard with line engraved bow and acorn finial, turned ramrod pipe. Ramrod absent and sliver of wood of forestock missing. Overall 13½" (~345mm) Notes: William Henshaw, Gunmaker, 279 Strand, 1780; 181 Strand, 1784-91; 44 New Bond Street., 1801-8. 1788 Contractor to East India Co., 1772-1822. Died 1822.
