Sidney Thorne George (16 Apr 1885 - June 1970) Sharebroker of Auckland, youngest son of the Hon. Seymour Thorne George (MLC). WW1 23/33 Sergt. NZ Rifle Brigade, 1 Bn A Coy. Egypt, EEF and Western Front. Lot comprises: (i) WW1 14-15 Star, British War Medal and Victory Medal. (ii) A scarce Special Constabulary (Foot)' Medal 1913, to 'S.T.George'. (Awarded by the Auckland Citizens Defence Committee to 'Massey's Cossacks' for the wharf strike of 1913.) Embarked 9 October 1915. Discharged, unfit, illness contracted on active service 16 January 1917. Provenance: Laurie Osborne Collection
