Lot comprises: 1914-15 Star, British War Medal and Victory Medal Richard (Dick) Te Paa (3 Feb 1897 - 10 Sept 1951) WWI Cpl. 16/554 1st Māori Contingent, A-Coy. Served Egypt, EEF, Galipolli and Western Front. Evidently Te Paa gave his birth on enlistment as 1894 (stating his age as 20 years 11 months rather than his true 17 years), he was born at Waimamaku, Hokianga and was working as a coach-builder for Pullen & Armitage in Auckland when he enlisted. Severely wounded in the shoulder by gunshot in the field in 1917 then hospitalised suffering pneumonia in 1918 Te Paa, whilst in London in Nov 1918 was Court Martialed for ‘resisting the M.P & Civilian Police in the execution off their duty ‘, detained and reduced to ranks. He was discharged 14 Nov 1919 (No longer fit for War Service on account of illness contracted on Active Service). Literature: 'Whitiki! Whiti! Whiti!
