Lot Details

J.F. Robson (8 Nov 1887 - ) Ponsonby, Auckland. WWI 17/169 Cpl. NZ Veterinary Corps, 2nd Reinforcements. Egypt, EEF and Western Front. Embarked 14 Dec 1914. Transferred to Auck Inft Regt. Wounded France 1918. Discharged 6 February 1919. James was one of three brothers who served in the NZEF (Norman Ellison Robson and Albert Lacey Robson) The 2nd Reinforcements of the Veterinary Corps (NZVC) departed Wellington, for Suez in December 1914, carrying vital personnel and farriers to support the mounted rifles and artillery horses of the NZEF. Corporal Robson presumably served in one of the ‘Veterinary Sections’ - 115-man hospital units, one each for the infantry and the mounted rifles that in January 1916 were disbanded and absorbed into the two 'Mobile Veterinary Sections'. Since May served on the Western Front he was likely in the No. 1 New Zealand Mobile Veterinary Section that served with the NZ Division. Lot comprises: 1914-15 Star, British War Medal and Victory Medal. Includes: AWWM printout and NZ Archives printout. Provenance: Laurie Osborne Collection
