Alexander McKinley Laird (b. 9 May 87) Mosgiel, Otago. WWI 4/776, Sapper, NZEF 4th Reinforcements, New Zealand Field Engineers, served Egypt and Gallipoli. Embarked for Gallipoli 30 April, Laird was repeatedly hospitalised, he returned to Gallipoli in December, but was subsequently hospitalised again, until in May 1917 he was Classified Unfit For Further Service. Returned to NZ, Laird was Discharged - classified: "No Longer Physically Fit/Illness", a representative of a large number of Anzacs in similar broken condition.
