Ernest Leslie Henderson (16 August 1894/5 - 8 January 1966) Canterbury. WWI 24/786 NZEF Sgt NZ Rifle Bgde 2/Bn C-Coy, Lot Comprises: 1914-15 Star, British War Medal and Victory Medal. Enlisted 29 May 1915. Embarked 9 Oct 15 - Suez. Served Sinai and France. In Nov 1917 Henderson was sentenced to 28 days Field Punishment No.2 for 'creating a disturbance after lights out' and using 'obscene language to an officer'. Within a year however Henderson rose quickly through the ranks, promoted in October 1918 'in the field' to Sergeant. Discharged 13/4/19 end of period of engagement. Henderson re-enlisted 5/10/278 Army Temp Staff, Southern Military District 1940/41. Includes: AWWM printout and NZ Archives printout. Provenance: Laurie Osborne Collection
