Richard Selwyn Halliwell ( 7 Feb 1891 - 12 Oct 1948) NZEF WWI 1/130 Pvte Samoan Advance Party Machine-gun Section; Discharged. Re-embarked 2/Lieut Otago Infantry Bn, 19th Reinforcements D-Coy. Active: Samoa, France and Belgium. Discharged 16 Aug 1919. Re-engaged 1 Oct 1919 NZSC, Posted retired List 1927. Re-engaged to Admin Operations WWII 743989 L/Col Spec Duty (Military Liaison Office) London. Discharged 21 July 1945. Lot comprises: (I) Military Cross to 2/Lt R.S. Halliwell, Ypres 12.10.17; (ii) 1914-15 Star; British War Medal; Victory Medal and (iii) NZLES Medal. (iv( Framed telegram from Buckingham Palace Military Cross : Citation: London Gazette. 6 Apr 1918 p.4240: “For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. He went forward under very heavy shellfire during an attack to obtain information. He sent a most valuable report, organised a party to continue the attack, and went along the whole brigade sector, regardless of danger, encouraging the men.
